Mui Ne Beach: High Season / November to April - May

Kitesurfing has been here in Mui Ne for over 10 years now when you'd find a dusty road and a tree lined coastline with beautiful white sands. Some would say Mui Ne holds it's popularity and development boost in recent years down to the success of the kitesurfing scene. This kitesurfing/kiteboarding scene owes it's success down to the exceptional trade winds which crank through the area drawn in by thermal effect of the sand dunes. This thermal effect can help boost the winds to over and above 25 knots during the High Season (November to April). Wind during this period are cross on shore North Easterly and can range from 12 knots to 30+ knots daily. Downwinders (12km) to Phan Thiet are a must for the intermediate to advanced rider looking for a bit of adventure.

Mui Ne Beach: Low Season / June to October

Low Season here in Mui Ne can be a magical time when the massing crowds dwindle down to a steady trickle and Mui Ne returns to it's quite fishing village roots. With a combination of super hot days coupled with a daily storm shower for a few hours in the late afternoon. Winds can be diverse during this period with light thermals of 8 -12 knots through to storm fronts bringing in those 20 knot howlers. The wind direction during this period June - October is South Westerly with ground swell generated from Typhoons of the Phillipines it's definately the best time for surfing the cleaner waves. Downwinders across the bay (8km) for some of the best onshore waveriding Mui Ne has to offer at this time of year..

Low season wind direction

Conditions: Storm Fronts, Cleaner Waves, Less Chop, Thermals 12 Knots Average winds, Great for teaching with 2-4hrs wind per day.

Kite Sizes: Definately bigger kites 9m 12m 15m are the go for those thermic days.

Not a manic as high season. Low Season is when you get to ride with the real locals and some nice wave days, less busy with tourist and riders some great days to be had. Less chance of wind 50% for the average week, when it's on though it can be the best.
